Far Out Apple Event Recap

Image
Apple completed their Far out event today and it was quite a show as always. Confirming a lot of information that has been coming out over the last couple months as well as a few new surprises with their new line up of devices.  Apple Watch Updates -  It was nice to see Apple continuing to update their SE line of Apple watches to make smart watches more approachable without giving up too many features from the premium more expensive models.  But the watch that stole the show was the much awaited Apple Watch Ultra. This is the first watch with a lot of new features.  - Multi day battery for long hiking and adventures  - Night mode for low light conditions to limit blue light  - GPS back tracking for long excursions  - Dive computer that tracks depth and water temperature  - More rugged band and casing  As a long time Apple watch user since the series 3, it has been interesting to see the evolution of this device. We have incrementally be...

Pre-Apple Event

Image
Today marks Apples long anticipated September event. With the leaks and rumors surrounding the upcoming iPhone 14, Airpod Pro 2, Apple Watch Series 8 I think this will be an interesting event to watch.  Thanks to a lot of the pre release leaks it will unfortunately be another year of the lightning connector on the iPhone which is really a shame, but hopefully we will see that corrected as more and more of Apple's devices are moving to the USB-C connector already standard on Android devices, the iPad Pro line up, and all Macbooks.  I think this is a miss in my opinion as many users (myself included) are getting tired of carrying around a lightning cable for their phone and airpods, an apple watch charger, and now a USB cable for their macbooks and iPads. The movement to USB-C would be a big step in cutting down cable clutter and improving data transfer speeds when transferring large files to and from iPhones.  This will definitely be an interesting event beyond the h...

Yealink UH34 Review

Image
Hey Everyone,  With more and more virtual meetings the last couple of years a good headset is essential whether you are working from the office or working from home. I have been using this headset for the last 6 months and I have to say for the price its an excellent choice, especially for Microsoft Teams. I will note I have used this for Google Meet and Zoom, but my primary method for both calls and meetings is Teams.  The Options:  YEA-UH34-MONO-UC YEA-UH34-DUAL-UC You can get the UH34 in either a single ear or a dual ear model. My review is based on the dual ear model as I prefer the comfort and sound of having a speaker over both ears. Both models connect to your computer or laptop dock via USB A. I have tested this with both a USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports and have not noticed a difference in functionality or sound quality.  The earpads are made of a fairly dense foam material that isn't too heavy on your ears, and it is comfortable to wear the headset for lo...

Long time IOS user, but tempted to make the switch to Android

Image
Hey Readers,  I have used various iPhone and android models in the past, and swapped back n forth between models as new features came out. But that all changed in 2018 when I picked up the iPhone X. The phone had good battery life, was comfortable to hold, and kept up with my constant phone use. I wouldn't call myself a heavy user, but due to work emails, teams, Instagram, YouTube, investing apps, etc. I am on phone more than most. With the feature set and performance I wasn't tempted to switch until the iPhone 13 pro was released.  In September I went ahead and picked up this new iPhone. You could definitely feel the weight and feature set of a more premium phone. But after the initial glamour wore off of purchasing a new device and seeing the changes in smoothness with the new 120hz display. It just felt kind of the same as my previous phone, with a slightly larger, screen snappier CPU, and huge cameras.  Pros: -Crisp display with 120hz pro motion  -Great len...

Windows 11: Sorting through the data

Image
Earlier this year Microsoft announced Windows 11 a complete redesign of the windows environment with enhanced security. This was surprising as Windows 10 was supposed to be the last windows ever and we were just supposed to see updates to this version of the OS. Microsoft has made it clear with products like Microsoft 365 to make windows more like a service rather than just an operating system.  " "Right now we’re releasing Windows 10, and because  Windows 10  is the last version of Windows, we’re all still working on Windows 10." That was the message from Microsoft employee Jerry Nixon, a developer evangelist  speaking at the company's Ignite conference  this week." (Warren, 2015)  Some of the big highlights include  -Removal of the live tiles from the start menu  -Relocation of the taskbar icons to be more centered (similar to what you see in MacOS and many Linux distros)  -Integration of Microsoft Teams (Like they previously did with...

Logitech Combo Touch IPad keyboard case review

Image
Making the most of my iPad Pro Recently I decided to look into something more portable than my work laptop, but still with the features and processor power to get a lot of what I wanted done. What I landed on is the new iPad Pro combined with the Logitech Combo Touch keyboard case. You can read more about my thoughts on the iPad Pro in another post, today I want to focus on my experience with the keyboard case that is currently retailing for $199.99. Please note I purchased the iPads and the cases myself and these were not provided by any company for the purpose of a review. In this post, I want to talk about the accessory that has changed the way I use my iPad completely and was a significant upgrade over my old Apple Smart Keyboard folio I used with my IPad Air 2020 as shown below. The Apple folio case was slightly cheaper at a retail price of $179.00 available on Apple’s website here. The Smart Keyboard folio is great for light typing and emphasizes portability over typi...

Doing Life Better part 2: Continuing Education

Hello Everyone,  This is a continuation of my last post on how I am doing things better (in my opinion) to live a little better. One of the things I started doing last year and continue through this year is going back to school to get a higher degree. I think this may be somewhat of a controversial  topic as a degree isn't always necessary to get a better job, make a decent salary, and can't outweigh a persons skills and work experience but I feel like it makes opening doors easier and is something to leverage into higher positions. I have been working professionally for some time now and have been fortunate enough to rise into management and make a decent salary with an associates degree. But throughout my journey despite me being very good at what I do managers have constantly told me.  Finish your BS degree. Getting a degree will help you go further. You should get paid more with a BS degree over an AS.   Now for me it was hard to immediately jump to a ...
